Bloom's Take Some headphones play music — RAAL's Immanis reveals it, peeling back the veil between listener and artist with each ribbon-drawn breath. Immanis isn’t just a leap forward in ribbon driver innovation — it’s a crown jewel among summit-fi headphones. Building on the legacy of the SR1a, it pairs ethereal electrostatic-like detail with the visceral weight of planar bass, delivering a sound that’s both majestic and muscular. Immanis surrounds you with staggering dimensionality — voices and instruments materialize in holographic space with a level of realism that borders on the surreal. Whether it’s the cinematic sweep of Hans Zimmer or the ferocity of Opeth’s dynamic shifts, Immanis translates every nuance with soul-stirring precision and power. And the soundstage doesn’t just sprawl — it breathes. Bass slams with authority, mids feel startlingly present, and the highs soar with air and elegance. This is a headphone that doesn’t merely reproduce music — it reimagines it. With a build quality worthy of its sonic pedigree and a more intuitive ribbon interface, Immanis feels like RAAL’s shogunate era — power refined, tradition honored, and every stroke of sound rendered with noble force. It may demand a throne-worthy amp, but what it delivers in return is, quite possibly, audio perfection. Read our full review here. |
Upon its release February 2024, Immanis quickly caught the attention of headphone aficionados everywhere. It only takes a few minutes of listening to discover why this triple-ribbon design is so talked about. The soundstage is enormous. It’s fast. It’s transparent. It’s lively and exciting.
Immanis is designed to provide a luxurious and comfortable listening experience. The memory foam ear pads are covered with lamb suede on the inside and perforated leather on the outside. The round ear pad opening is thoughtfully designed to comfortably accommodate larger ears. For connectivity, the headphones utilize standard 3.5 mm TRRS sockets, offering wide compatibility with high-end cables and audio sources.
The three Immanis ribbons have a combined surface area of 25.2 cm², a shell diameter of 11 cm and an impedance of 0.057Ω (0.29Ω with the 1.8 m long Star-8 MkII headphone cable). The maximum sound pressure level increases by 3 dB, the round ear cup opening increases to 74 mm, and the weight to 610 g. Adding a touch of elegance, the external grill now features a refined gold-plated finish.
In comparison, the Magna ribbons have almost 29% more surface area than the CA-1 driver, while the Immanis ribbons are almost twice the surface area of the CA-1 and 1.45 times larger than the SR1. Between them, Immanis offers 50% more surface area than Magna and has a larger front chamber.
The Immanis requires a special amplifier that can handle the almost non-existent resistance of the headphones. A special interface in the form of a headphone stand has been developed for the new Immanis and Magna, which, together with a special cable, enables connection to a “normal” headphone amplifier.
The Immanis can of course also be connected to an existing TI-1a/b/c, HSA or VM (Direct Drive Amplifier) interface.
